10 Amazing Facts you never knew about Jeans

Hey guys! I was surfing the internet as usual for the most random things and came across some interesting things I never knew about jeans.
It’s no surprise if you hate wearing jeans at home - I am definitely numero uno on that list - but we can't deny how good we look when we dress it up a little because of how the nice fitted ones tend to make your 'behind' look (wink). Anyways, I came across some facts and thought I should share.
1. Did you know the word ‘jeans’ comes from the word ‘Genes’ (“Jot that down”) which is the French word for the city of Genoa?

2. They were invented by Jacob Davis who was a Nevada tailor and businessman, Levi Strauss in 1873.

3. Jeans were originally called 'waist overalls': Imagine telling someone “I’m putting on a pair of waist overalls”...That's just blehhh!! A pair of jeans fits just best. Gladly Levi Strauss saved the day and renamed it.

4. In Japan, you can buy jeans through vending machines. I wonder when that will happen in Naija (But to be honest, we have more pressing things to take care of).

5. Asia produces half the jeans worn by the world. I bet you thought it was Western yeah? More than 50% of the total production of jeans is done in Asia – namely, India, China and Bangladesh.

6. A grand total of 225 pairs of jeans can be made from just one bale of cotton.

7. If you’ve ever wondered why the inside of denim garments are white, this is because only the outside (warp) is dyed indigo. The weft (interior) is not dyed.

8. The most expensive commercially available pair of jeans in the world right now is Escada's Couture Swarovski Crystal Jeans at $10,000 (N3.8 million). For a pair of jeans fam? Wawu!!

9. Back in the day, jeans for women had their zipper placed on the right side. Thanks to the one who switched it back to the front because that would have been stunting on our little hips for people like us who struggle you know!

10. I bet you also didn't know that jeans were not originally made for the purpose of fashion but were made for labourers because denim was one of the most durable fabrics.

If you made it here, congratulations, you have made it to the end of my article. Now that my knowledge has been shared, I can go back to sipping my red wine. You are welcome!
